Road Weary

Sunday, April 11, 2010
Pythagoria, Samos Island

I have grown road weary. I am a horse that smells the barn.

I want a Chipotle burrito and my own bed. I want to work the earth in my garden and greet my neighbors; take a hot bath and change into fresh clothes.

I want to sleep for three days straight and only crawl out of bed to make my own coffee in my own kitchen, sit on my porch or front steps and watch the world going by. I want to eat something I have cooked myself. I miss my sharp knives and chopping veggies at my counter looking out over the parkway.

I am tired of ancient ruins. I want to be home where things are new. I want to see my own doctor and get rid of the hookworm living in my foot.

I want to visit my family and catch up on news from home. I want to hug my sisters and my friends and go to church at St. Joan of Arc.

I want to see a movie and eat popcorn. I want to see a newspaper written in English. I want to throw away the clothes I am wearing.

I am ready to come home.
